A fan-favorite from the Warhammer 40K universe is making an unexpected return. Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine is being re-released as the Master Crafted Edition, launching on June 10 for PC and Xbox Series X|S. The re-release will also be available on Xbox Game Pass from day one, giving subscribers instant access to this updated version of the iconic third-person shooter. Notably, no version for PlayStation 5 has been confirmed, with the release seemingly focused solely on Microsoft’s platforms.

This refreshed edition is being billed as the ultimate version of the original game, celebrating the blood-soaked journey of Captain Titus and the Ultramarines in their brutal campaign against the Ork threat. Originally launched in 2011 by THQ for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC, the game now returns with enhanced visuals and modern gameplay improvements thanks to the efforts of SneakyBox, the development team behind the update.

Visually, the Master Crafted Edition brings Space Marine into the modern age with 4K resolution support, a completely redesigned interface, and significantly improved character models. In addition, the game’s audio has been overhauled to match today’s sound standards, including over 100 newly recorded voice lines for the Orks, which helps bring the green menace more in line with current Warhammer 40K lore and aesthetic.

SneakyBox’s producer Vaidas Mikelskas described this edition as more than just a technical upgrade. According to him, it’s a meaningful restoration that strives to honor the soul of the original while making it accessible and appealing to players today. Rather than simply updating the visuals, the team focused on refining the full experience—keeping what worked while enhancing the gameplay where needed.

Players stepping into the boots of Captain Titus can expect the same fierce, in-your-face action that made the original stand out. Whether mowing down foes with high-powered ranged weapons or slicing through them with a chainsword, the combat promises to retain its raw, visceral intensity. Titus remains the embodiment of Space Marine resilience—charging into battle without fear, clad in powerful Ceramite armor and leading the charge against overwhelming odds.

Multiplayer returns as well, allowing players to form squads and engage in chaotic 8-versus-8 battles online. Customization plays a key role, with unlockable weapons, armor, and abilities that allow players to tailor their Space Marine—whether as a Devastator, Assault, or Tactical Marine—to suit their style of warfare. This re-release aims to strike a balance between nostalgia and new possibilities, giving both returning fans and newcomers plenty to explore.

Among the most significant changes is the visual and audio fidelity. The entire graphics engine has been rebuilt, resulting in richer environments and more detailed 3D models. The original Flash-based UI has been replaced with a more intuitive, modern system. These updates extend to sound as well, with newly recorded Ork dialogue and better support for today’s audio setups. On the technical side, the game has been transitioned from a 32-bit to a 64-bit system, offering better performance and stability overall.

The timing of this announcement is particularly interesting, following the success of Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, which launched in 2024 and was widely praised. That game also recently received a content update with the addition of a Siege mode. Meanwhile, the Warhammer universe continues to expand, as seen in the announcement of Dawn of War – Definitive Edition and other new content showcased during the Warhammer Skulls 2025 event.

While PlayStation users may be disappointed by the lack of a PS5 version, the Master Crafted Edition of Space Marine offers a compelling reason for Xbox and PC players to revisit—or experience for the first time—one of the most intense third-person shooters ever to bear the Warhammer 40K name. With modern enhancements and a respectful approach to what made the original special, this edition ensures that Captain Titus’s story continues to resonate with old fans and new warriors alike.
