Konami has unveiled the opening cinematic for the eagerly anticipated action-adventure stealth title, Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, which features a reimagined version of the franchise’s classic theme song tailored for today’s audience. When this remake was first announced, it was also made clear that neither Hideo Kojima, the series’ original creator, nor Yoji Shinkawa, the iconic artist behind the franchise’s visuals, would be involved in this particular project.
Snake Eater is a modern remake of the beloved 2004 game Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, set in 1964. The story follows FOX operative Naked Snake as he undertakes a mission to rescue a Russian rocket scientist and thwart the Soviet Union’s development of the nuclear Shagohod weapon. To support the ambitious scope of this remake, Virtuos—the developer—has recently expanded by opening a new studio in South Korea while maintaining operations in Singapore. Both teams are focused on delivering the game in time for its scheduled release on August 28, 2025. The release of the opening cinematic has certainly fueled excitement among fans eager to revisit this classic title.
Konami shared the opening movie on YouTube, showcasing Kyle Cooper’s revamped intro sequence for Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, which runs about three minutes. This cinematic is distinct from the live-action Metal Gear Solid movie adaptation that has been stuck in pre-production for years. Instead, this opening sequence serves as a polished and clear introduction to the game, highlighting pivotal moments and setting the tone. One of the most striking aspects of this video is the return of Cynthia Harrell’s iconic theme song, but presented here in a newly recorded version. While the updated song remains very faithful to the original, listeners can pick up on subtle changes in the mixing that give it a smoother, more refined sound.
With the game’s August launch fast approaching, fans have already been informed of the PC system requirements for Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, and the release of the opening cinematic has only heightened anticipation within the gaming community. Many were amazed at how closely Harrell’s new recording matches the original version released twenty years ago, preserving the song’s classic feel and those familiar James Bond-style vibes. The original Snake Eater theme, composed by Norihiko Hibino, has long been a defining piece of the series, playing during the opening sequence of the original game and notably during a memorable climbing sequence near the end.

As a remake, Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater promises to deliver an array of exciting improvements while honoring the elements fans love. The game will feature modernized mechanics such as a faster camouflage system and over-the-shoulder shooting, alongside the return of signature gameplay staples like Close Quarters Combat (CQC) and the Codec communication system. Furthermore, the newly revealed Snake vs Monkey mode has generated significant buzz, with fans eagerly counting down the days until August. There’s still more to be revealed about the PS5, Xbox, and PC versions, keeping the community eagerly awaiting further announcements.
